Family Fun Day 29/04/2008The minis and midis section of Southwell Rugby Club are holding a Fun Day on Sunday 11 May. Remember it's on Friday 23rd May 7pm for 7:30pm £25 per ticket -------------------------www.southwellrfc.co.uk-------------------------Saturdays tribute to Gary 22/04/2008Despite the cold weather Saturday saw over two hundred people turnout at Park Lane to mark the passing of one of their own and to show the respect and friendship that everyone associated with Southwell RFC felt for former 3rd XV Captain, Gary Thompson who was tragically killed whilst on active duty in Afghanistan on Sunday 13th April 2008. With both Southwell 1st and 3rd XVs and their respective opposition linking arms in a circle on the pitch and the large crowd on the hill a minutes silence was impeccably observed by all and it was a sensitive and difficult moment with several players, members and friends rightly becoming quite emotional during the minutes silence. All three Southwell teams playing Saturday wore black armbands as a mark of respect and with the 3rd XV virtually having two full sides due to the presence of so many friends and ex Southwell and Burton Joyce RFC players who had turned up to play as their tribute to their former captain and friend it was a difficult day for all concerned. Some of these players had not played in several years or played despite injuries and it shows the level of popularity that Gary held with the presence of so many of his ex-players and teammates willingness to have a run-out.
